Sourdough Workshop

SIOUX CITY. Learn all the basics of baking with a sourdough starter at a hands-on Sourdough Workshop on Thursday, May 8, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. The workshop will be offered at ISU Extension and Outreach – Woodbury County, in Sioux City. Renee Sweers, a health and human sciences educator with ISU Extension and Outreach, will lead the workshop.

During the hands-on workshop, participants will:

· Learn about maintaining and using a sourdough starter.

· Take Home Your Own Starter to continue your sourdough baking experience at home

· Mix, Stretch, and Fold a Mini Loaf, learning the essential techniques for creating the perfect loaf of bread and taking home a mini loaf to ferment and bake.

· Taste and Explore- sample a batch of fermented focaccia and discover the use of sourdough discard and an active starter.

“This fun, hands-on pilot workshop will help bakers interested in learning about baking with a sourdough starter and understand the unique aspects of using the starter to leaven baked products,” states Sweers. “We will explore sourdough products and troubleshoot/ problem solve issues that can occur with sourdough starters and baking.”

The sourdough workshop is part of a series of pilot programs offered through ISU Extension in Woodbury County.

Fermentation Workshop – Tuesday, July 22, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
