SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting - Siouxland Freedom Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the completion of Siouxland Freedom Park's Korean War Memorial. \n\n \nThis memorial\, which joins the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall\, is located to the west of the original parking lot at the corner of Veterans Drive and Foundry Road in South Sioux City.\n\n \n\nThis impressive memorial was created in the likeness of the Korean War Memorial in Washington\, DC. It consists of 19 Korean War soldiers which are life-size\, two-dimensional and made of stainless steel fronts with laser cuts\, buffing and polishing to bring them to life\, all created by Port Neal Welding. The soldiers are in a platoon formation\, marching as if in the rice paddies of Korea\, each soldier distinctively unique. \n\n \n\nThe Korean War Memorial is even more striking and moving at night. With illumination installed by Thompson Solutions lighting up each soldier\, there is a surreal sense of place and realization of the struggles that these soldiers had to face.\n\n \n\nThe construction of the site was completed by HCI Construction with assistance for the dirt work by Andy Lux. Engineering detail was provided by Olsson Associates. \n\n \n\n \n\nThe signs at the apex of the Korean War Memorial were created by Port Neal Welding. One sign details significant battles of the Korean War. The other sign thanks the many supporters who made this memorial possible through their generous donations at last year's Freedom Ball.\n\n \n\n \n\nThe war that has been called "The Forgottten War" will never be forgotten at Siouxland Freedom Park.
